The New Arbitration Act 2025

The Arbitration Act 2025 came into force on 1 August 2025, introducing targeted reforms to the Arbitration Act 1996 through a series of new “A”-suffixed provisions. While the 1996 Act has not undergone wholesale reform, the 2025 changes are expected to have a significant impact on both domestic and international arbitrations seated in England & Wales, including those conducted under institutional rules.

The session examines the background and practical implications of key reforms, including the law applicable to the arbitration agreement, enhanced duties of disclosure, the introduction of summary dismissal powers, and the recognition of emergency arbitrators.

The speakers, Charles Debattista, Robert Morgan and Ishfaq Ahmed, bring extensive experience in international commercial arbitration, shipping and commodities disputes, arbitration law reform, and academic and professional arbitration practice.
